"My client will explain everything much better than I can, Miss Hall."
The Sandman
"Do you know what an annulet is?"
The Sandman
"-A what? -An annulet."
The Sandman
"It's a kind of ring, I believe. Old word."
The Sandman
"Where did such a young girl run across such an old word?"
The Sandman
"I'm not that young. I'm actually 21."
The Sandman
"No one ever believes me."
The Sandman
"And they always ask to see my ID, it's annoying."
The Sandman
"What's annoying is when they stop asking."
The Sandman
"Trust me."
The Sandman
"-[knocking] -[woman] Come in, please."
The Sandman
"[Rose] Thank you."
The Sandman
"You must be Rose."
The Sandman
"I am. And this is my friend, Lyta Hall."
The Sandman
"It's a pleasure to meet you both."
The Sandman
"My name is Unity. Unity Kincaid."
The Sandman
"-Thank you, Mr. Holdaway. -Not at all."
The Sandman
"[door closes]"
The Sandman
"He's very serious, isn't he? [chuckles]"
The Sandman
"Please, come in."
The Sandman
"Thank you. Ooh."
The Sandman
"-Whose is this? -Oh, that was mine when I was a girl."
The Sandman
"[Rose] It looks brand-new."
The Sandman
"It might as well be."
The Sandman
"I didn't get a chance to play with it."
The Sandman
"[Rose] Why not?"
The Sandman
"Well, that's why you're here actually."
The Sandman
"The doll's house was a gift. For my 12th birthday."
The Sandman
"The doctors tell me that on that night, I fell ill"
The Sandman
"with something called encephalitis lethargica."
The Sandman
"[man] Rise and shine, dormouse."
The Sandman
"[Unity] I fell asleep, and I didn't wake up."
The Sandman
"Luvvy? Unity?"
The Sandman
"Until eight months ago."
The Sandman
"But in my dreams, I had the most glorious life."
The Sandman
"I took over my father's business."
The Sandman
"And I met a man with golden eyes."
The Sandman
"And we had a baby."
The Sandman
"But it wasn't until I woke up that I found out that none of it was real."
The Sandman
"Except for the baby."
The Sandman
"Apparently, while I was asleep in hospital,"
The Sandman
"I had a baby girl."
The Sandman
"They hushed it up at the time, but Mr. Holdaway found out"
The Sandman
"that she was adopted by a fine family."
The Sandman
"And that she grew up to have a daughter of her own."
The Sandman
"Called Miranda."
The Sandman
"Miranda Walker."
The Sandman
"Your mother."
The Sandman
"I'm your great-grandmother, Rose."
The Sandman
"And I'm sorry to have brought you here under false pretenses,"
The Sandman
"but I thought that if it were explained to you first, you might not have…"
The Sandman
"You might not have come."
The Sandman
"And I don't think I could have borne that."
The Sandman
"[sighing] Oh."
The Sandman
"I'll let you catch up."
The Sandman
"-No. You don't have to-- -No, please stay."
The Sandman
"I'll come back. You two talk."
The Sandman
"[door opens]"
The Sandman
"[door closes]"
The Sandman
"[man] Thank you both for coming all this way,"
The Sandman
"but as co-chairs of the planning committee,"
The Sandman
"it falls to us to come up with a suitable replacement for the Family Man."
The Sandman
"So, we need a new guest of honor. Immediately, if not sooner."
The Sandman
"Do we have any other big names coming?"
The Sandman
"-Um, Moon River. -Mmm, no."
The Sandman
"Uh, the Candyman."
The Sandman
"Uh, we need a marquee player. People have already bought tickets."
The Sandman
"Not as many people as last year."
The Sandman
"All the more reason to go big."
The Sandman
"Who's the one person we'd all pay to see?"
The Sandman
"-[all] The Corinthian. -Yeah."
The Sandman
"I reach out every year. No response."
The Sandman
"No."
The Sandman
"Thank you."
The Sandman
"How old do you think he is?"
The Sandman
"The Corinthian?"
The Sandman
"Oh. He's been around for forever."
The Sandman
"No, the waiter."
The Sandman
"[woman] Sixteen? Seventeen?"
The Sandman
"Too old for you."
The Sandman
"He looks younger."
The Sandman
"Though there's probably been more than one Corinthian over the years."
The Sandman
"Whoever the current one is, his work is exquisite."
The Sandman
"This was last week. In DC."
The Sandman
"-Oh. -Oh. [chuckles]"
The Sandman
"So he's on the East Coast. He's not far."
The Sandman
"What do you think he does with the eyes?"
The Sandman
"He's a collector. Same as us."
The Sandman
"I can invite him again through the usual channels."
The Sandman
"No, if we want to get his attention, we have to think like him."
The Sandman
"Act… like him."
The Sandman
"Are you suggesting we--"
The Sandman
"Copycat the Corinthian?"
The Sandman
"Might be fun."
The Sandman
"We do not plagiarize one another's work."
The Sandman
"We have a code."
The Sandman
"We also have over 100 serial killers coming to this thing."
The Sandman
""Collectors." Please."
The Sandman
"And they paid good money to see the Family Man."
The Sandman
"No. Absolutely not."
The Sandman
"Fine. Have it your way."
The Sandman
"Restroom?"
The Sandman
"Do you think the Corinthian has a type?"
The Sandman
"[knock on door]"
The Sandman
"May I help you?"
The Sandman
"Oh, you're not Rose Walker."
The Sandman
"No, I'm Carl."
The Sandman
"Rose's roommate?"
The Sandman
"House-sitter. She's away."
The Sandman
"Ah."
The Sandman
"And you are?"
The Sandman
"I guess you could say I'm kind of a headhunter."
The Sandman
"Here to offer Rose a job."
The Sandman
"-Seriously? -Do you know where I can find her?"
The Sandman
"Uh…"
The Sandman
"She's traveling at the moment, but I can give her a message."
The Sandman
"Hmm. Yeah, how long do you think she'll be away?"
The Sandman
"A week."
The Sandman
"But… you're welcome to wait."
The Sandman
"[man] The Corinthian's technique is meticulous."
